my computers history

my computers history

Every day we go to our office and start our computers. Most of us have the luxury of having the boot right away and fairly fast. However, others may go through a very slow and frustrating start-up. This can be annoying, especially if you need to check something on your computer quickly, or you do not have time to sit and wait until it starts. After all, time is money!

Program Automatic start-ups

A common problem that puts a brake on your speed programs that start automatically. A lot of programs installed on your computer have an option to open when your computer starts, and many of them have the option selected automatically without you knowing.

Having many programs running when your computer starts is the same as trying to get a hundred people in a door at the same time is very crowded and very slow. So, this will tend to use your onboard memory (RAM) when it could be better served by your host operating system.

Look for the little icons on the bottom right corner of your screen. Right click on each them and see if you can select the option to turn off their automatic start-up function. This is not a big problem If these programs do not open automatically, you can always start with the home program from all programs, when you need.

Corrupt Registry

Another cause for a computer startup slow are problems with the registry. The registry is the most important part your operating system. It deals with system preferences and hardware and software, as well. If the register is bloated and has corrupted files, this can cause a slow startup and slow computer in general.

Keep in mind, while this is not your fault. Everything you do with your PC to edit the registry status. The only way you can prevent your registry to obtain all corruptions of any kind is not to use it. It is, of course, a ridiculous solution.

There are, however, registry cleaners being made to save your registry in the right way after it was amended. Most of these cleaners offer a free scan, so you you should know before buying one if it is not corruption or registry slow you down.

Delete Temporary Internet Files

There are other possibilities that will slow to a computer starts-up. One of these causes is the temporary Internet files on your computer. Cleaning these on a regular basis can speed up your computer.

With Internet Explorer 6.0, you go to the Internet Explorer window and click Tools-delete browsing history and delete temporary Internet files. This step will save the computer from loading a bunch of extra stuff next time it starts.

Low RAM

Another reason for a slow computer start-up is that you might not be enough of computer memory. Increasing your computer memory or RAM is a good thing to do to your computer in general and provides faster speeds and better performance. However, if your computer has just started to lose speed rapidly, it is not a lack of memory, it is more likely corruption of the registry.

Too little RAM generally manifests itself after a new program was added to the computer and performance suffers when the program is running.

The causes of slow computer start-ups can be a bit more seriously as well. For example, you may have a virus or your hard drive may be faulty. Either one of these things could indicate big problems. Before you get too scared though, is my experience a hard drive usually starts to become very noisy when it is on its last legs. However, you should be aware if this happens and you need to scan for viruses regularly.

Of course, there is no need for alarm about these things, if you save your files regularly. If you do, you can not be too concerned because restoring your computer is easy. So … you can save your files regularly. Right?
