Dragons, gargoyles and other grotesques are a symbol of many things: protection, warning and power. Not surprisingly, then, they have been used in architecture for centuries.
However, when they were first introduced to the architecture, They have a very practical use. They were actually designed as a rainstorm for preventing rainwater from the pooling around the Gothic cathedrals, castles and causing damage to structures.
