So you've decided to go to Calabria, the tip of the Italian boot. There is much to see, is a traditional area of Italy with fishing villages like Diamante over western Tyrrhenian coast. But it is a fishing village with a difference; Diamante is quite the artists' colony. If you're here in late summer, you'll see clotheslines with red hot chili peppers called peperoncini who are suspended to dry. In early September the village hosts a festival Peperoncini called "The South carnival, which attracts one hundred thousand visitors. The festival calendar is too long to reproduce here.
You can even go skiing in the Sila, a kilometer wide forested plateau in the interior of Calabria. Reggio Calabria is home to Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia (The National Museum of Magna Grecia), a major archaeological museum. The old city walls and Greek Roman baths. Falcomatà and promenade on the seafront has been called the miles of beautiful Italy. Their best glacier Tonino in the Corso, is a cream red onion ice (and others based on squid ink and nduja, the local spicy salami). Somehow I think I'll pass.
Calabria wine is mostly potential, yet the focus is on agriculture of citrus and olive trees. The best known is wine Cira ² produced near the town of the same name, on the coast of the Ionian Sea. May this wine be red, white, or Rosa ©; © red and pink are the signature grape of Calabria Gaglioppo. Other popular varieties include red Magliocco local Aglianico pride in the neighboring region of Basilicata and the international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. White varieties include local Greco and Trebbiano almost ubiquitous (Toscano), Malvasia (Bianca), and Chardonnay.

Establishments Wine of Calabria who accept visits to include Lento Lamezia Terme, Statti also Lamezia Terme, Azienda Vinicola Francesco Ciro Marina, Canteen and Vintripodi Archi in Reggio di Calabria. A few words of caution are in order. Make sure you check ahead for hours and if English is spoken. Some locations may entrance fee; others may expect you to buy some of their products.
